Google's new plus one (+1) is an interesting concept which will change the organic results considerably. But is it really necessary?
I presume that they got their idea from their not so recently acquired Youtube, you watch a video and give it a thumbs up or a thumbs down. But this does leave websites and rankings, open to much manipulation surely? And what about relevancy? A site that is seemly less optimised and less relevant for a search query may actually appear higher because of the number of +1's given - whether these are true or not.
And what about newcomers vs long established companies. If you have a company thats been around for donkeys years, with thousands of thumbs up and an awesome new innovative site/company appears - will they ever get a look in?
